land of the undead

The time of year I become a zombie, a zombie with a very very numb butt: the Auckland International Film Festival. In the past week (the first eight days of the festival) I have seen (deep breath): THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY, DAVE CHAPPELLE'S BLOCK PARTY, FEARLESS, WILD BLUE YONDER, THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED, YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME, THE FORSAKEN LAND, ONCE IN A LIFETIME, ANIMATION NOW!, NAKED CHILDHOOD, THE NEW WORLD, A SCANNER DARKLY, FROM THE OUTSKIRTS OF NOTHING TO THE SUBURBS OF THE VOID, THE PASSENGER, TALE OF CINEMA, and I AM A SEX ADDICT.

The latter was the last film I saw tonight, with the director, Caveh Zahedi, present. It was a pretty remarkable blend of documentary and drama, with Caveh playing himself and various actors and actresses playing other people in his life. Fearlessly honest and altogether unique in my experience.

The cat is now in the room and likes nothing more than disconnecting my modem cable, so I'm terminating this now as typing and staying connected while she's here is basically impossible. The point of this entry was, work is crazy and life is crazier because I am filling it with movies, but many of them are inspirational and brilliant and I want to run off and think about many of them for hours after seeing them, but can't because such is the nature of trying to attend a film festival in full force while working.

Bye for now. See WILD BLUE YONDER especially if you can, although I know at least one person who hated it.
